From 9/11 to Bali, to 11-M, to 7/7, to .  .  .

We started our very first tutorial exercise with the point-and-click Web PageBuilder at Yahoo's now phased-out Geocities of what was to become this present site on 5 Sep 2001. (Being the sentimental non-techie, we still keep that saved file.)

Six days later came 9/11 and the rest, as they say, is history. That is the reason we entitled what we then intended to be one of several sections of our site as "Emerging Markets After Sept.11" (the iconic 9/11 phrase had yet to be coined). As it happens, that part evolved to be the site's main section.

Our focus was always, and is, on emerging markets, as the site's title makes clear. And we saw the events of 9/11 as a significant, though not the only, factor affecting these markets and economies.

Then came the Bali (Indonesia) bombings of 12 Oct 2002, which was followed by the Madrid train bombings of 11 Mar 2004, better known as 11-M in Spain. Then there was also the London bombings of 7 Jul 2005, known as 7/7 in the UK -- to recall just three 9/11-like events of the recent past.

Increasingly then, the phrase 9/11 took on a connotation that was specific to the US. And since our site aspires to be an international one, proudly coming to you from outside the developed world, from Asia -- from Manila, Philippines (via our webhost's servers in the US) -- we thought it best to refocus on our site's title. Thus, all our Guests can never lose sight of the fact that our site is about the developing economies in general, and emerging markets in particular.

As we follow current economic and financial events around the globe affecting these emerging markets and economies, we shall also continue to monitor 9/11-like events, as well as other non-business happenings, relevant to the developing world.

We take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who have made our site a regular stop as you surf the Web, and we look forward to your continued patronage.
